Former President Jimmy Carter is scheduled to teach Sunday School this Sunday at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains.


New St. James Missionary Baptist Church of Oakfield will host its annual New Year’s Eve community celebration in fellowship with Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church of Oakfield, Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Leesburg and New Mt. Holder Missionary Baptist Church of Albany. The celebration is planned at 9 p.m. on Dec. 31 at New St. James Missionary Baptist Church, which is located off Highway 300 in Oakfield. Breakfast will be provided after the service.

Berachah Fellowship Church will conduct a Spirit of Christmas program at 7 p.m. on Dec. 15 at the Albany Civic Center. The semi-formal event will include dinner, dancing and entertainment by comedian Akintunde. For additional information, call (229) 594-6260.

First Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church will host a Community Christmas program at 5 p.m. on Dec. 16. The program is designed to benefit the children of the neighborhood. The church is located at 4325 Nichols St. in Putney.


Pastor Mark Rabe has accepted a role as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Albany.

Rabe grew up in the Portland, Ore., area and graduated from Concordia College. He and his wife, Stefanie, have four children, Noah, 10, adopted from Korea; Gabriella, 8, and Juliana, 6, both born in Oroville, Calif., and Matthias, 1, born in Kenya, Africa.

After a career in retail, Rabe graduated from Concordia Seminary in 2001. He was ordained and installed as pastor of Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Orville, Calif., and served there until July 2010 when he took a call to serve in Kenya. He served there until July, when he accepted the call to Albany.
