Assistant Monroe Principal Joey James is seen breaking up a fight at the school in this still from a video.

The video shows a man, identified as assistant principal Joey James, wading into a scuffle between two females in the school lunchroom and yanking one of the girls to the ground, effectively ending the fight.
“Yes, we are investigating the incident,” Phillips said Friday. “But we are just starting, and it will take a few days to sort this out.”
The video was posted on Facebook Thursday, but Phillips said the fight occurred “a couple of days before.”
Dougherty County School System Public Information Director R.D. Harter said the school system police department is in charge of the investigation and would review the video and interview James and witnesses before determining if any charges will be filed.

Play stupid games - win stupid prizes. It was a short vid clip. However she did seem at that point to be the aggressor in the scuffle. She resisted the attempts of the female adult to break off. So she got thrown back.
Act like an animal - get handled like one.
But on the question of charges being filed? That's not so clear-cut. I'm not sure every out of control student should be charged for school fights unless they are really out of the ordinary such as those involving weapons. This is just someone showing their butt. I think alternative school would be a more suitable punishment than criminal charges.

When I read the article, I thought that they were considering charging the administrator. That would be sad, as the guy was obviously doing his job.

I was being just a little sarcastic. I don't see an administrator throwing a student to the ground. I see an administrator pulling an attacker off to protect another student. He should be given a commendation. My comment was more that if anyone is considered for criminal charges, it should be the aggressive student.

Well, since we probably did not get the entire incident on the video, I say "kudos" to the administrator who "slam dunked" that girl. I bet it made the other straighten up rather quickly. It is so sad that teachers and administrators have absolutely no control. There should be some things that can do to keep control of the kids!!!!!!

Now I believe all these lunchrooms have video, so somewhere there shopuld be a clear video of the whole incident. Why wasn't it reported immediately by the administrator, and the videos reviewed? Why did it take a Facebook posting to expose the incident? Seems the Administrators are violating the rules. for isn't it against the rules to lay hands on a student? Smells of a coverup.

teachers can do what they need to do to break up fights. So they are NOT held liable, all they have to do is yell "stop fighting, stop fighting". they do not have to get engaged. but they can get engaged. when i taught at westover(before i wised up and got outta dodge!) i saw mr. wilson, an AP at the time, break up a fight and in the process, tear up his knee. needed over a year of rehab and was in a wheelchair because of it. at that time, i decided i'd NOT get engaged. the article isn't really clear about them watching THIS video or another video, but you're right, there should be one from the lunchroom.

These kids have no respect and no home training, so Joey James had to teach them!! I think if we had more admins like this then Doco schools would be alot better off!!

Now this is just ashamed Mr. James had to get fiscal with a student. He should be issued a cattle prod or at least a stun gun, NOW that would be a video worth watching. Maybe if they showed that at assembly the animals would think twice about fighting.

Fiddle de dee. Kids will be kids. The principal did exactly what he should have done. These things have happened since before public schools. Probably a good Shakespearan lesson to be learned - Much Ado About Nothing.

tywebb, you are full of it. It is a jungle at lunch at Monroe High. Yelling stop fighting is like giving milk to a baby and it will certainly not break up a fight. I have seen 5 fights happen at MHS in one day. Girls are the worst offenders and some are much more ruthless. He is a hero for taking the job and should not be bashed. The have Resource Officers, but where are they? Mr. James use to be principal at Southside and we know what happened there.

Vote Joey James for DOCO Superintendent of Student Behavior Management. He is exactly what Monroe needs. I imagine 75% of the students will think twice before " showing out"....the other 25% THUGS throw them down!
