ALBANY, Ga. — Approximately 383 graduates are eligible to receive associate of science, associate of arts or associate of applied science degrees or certificates at Darton State College’s fall 2012 commencement on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the college’s Cavalier Arena.
This year’s fall exercises will feature a keynote address by retired state Rep. Bob Hanner.
Hanner was first elected to the state House of Representatives in 1975. During his tenure, he served on the House Natural Resources & Environment Committee, the House Appropriations Committee, the Public Safety Committee and the Rules Committee.
He is the former chair of the Joint Blue Ribbon Study Commission on State Government Decentralization and the former co-chair of the Joint Comprehensive Water Plan Study Committee.
In addition, Hanner was the former chairman of the House Natural Resources & Environment Committee, the House Legislative & Congressional Reapportionment Committee and the House Game, Fish, & Parks Committee. Hanner represented Chattahoochee, Terrell, Quitman, Webster and part of Lee counties.
After retirement from the House in April 2012, Hanner was appointed by Gov. Nathan Deal as executive manager of Water Policy for the Georgia Soil and Water Conversation Commission.
He is a graduate of both Gordon Military College and Georgia Southwestern College and served in the U.S. Coast Guard in Vietnam from 1967-68.
Following commencement, the Darton College Foundation and the Student Government Association will host a reception for graduates and their families in the Student Center.
In addition, Darton State College’s allied health pinning ceremony will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m., followed by the nursing pinning ceremony at 4:30 p.m.
Both ceremonies will take place in the Cavalier Arena.
