Detour planned for Broad Avenue at Front Street

ALBANY, Ga. — A lane closure and detour on Broad Avenue at Front Street is planned to start at 9 a.m. Wednesday and continue through Friday, weather permitting, stated a Georgia Department of Transportation report. The traffic rerouting is planned so construction crews can stretch, connect and install a new water main.

Plans call for the detour route to be marked with barricades and signs directing drivers through the work zone. Motorists on Pine Avenue will be detoured to Jackson Street. Traffic on Broad Avenue will be detoured to Washington and Jackson Streets.

Motorists are advised that this is a work zone and caution is necessary. Drivers should be aware that crews and equipment will be operating in close proximity to travel lanes.

How in the world do you "stretch" a water main? Better watch out for leaks.

The downtown businesses are struggling to begin with and now this? I'm sure it must be done, but couldn't the work be started Friday night and work till Monday am? The bridge should have been repaired in the first place. You'll never convince me that could not have been done.
