High winds and strong storms expected in Georgia
ATLANTA (AP) — High winds and strong storms were expected across parts of Georgia on Monday.
The National Weather Service on Monday morning issued a special weather statement warning of 40-mph winds in parts of northwest Georgia, including Whitfield, Murray and Walker counties.
The high winds were accompanying strong storms beginning to move across northwest Georgia Monday morning.
The chance for thunderstorms in the Atlanta metro area was expected to increase later Monday.
Suspects who prompted manhunt captured in Florida
COVINGTON, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say two fugitives who prompted a large-scale search of a wooded area east of Atlanta have been apprehended in Florida.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that 57-year-old David Wesley Crawford turned himself in to police in Alachua, Fla., and 36-year-old Donald Mac Brown was also taken into custody in the area, about 15 miles north of Gainesville, Fla.
Both men were wanted on child sex offense charges in Georgia. It wasn’t immediately known whether the men have attorneys, or whether they will be returned to Georgia to face charges.
Federal agents and local police in Georgia had alerted residents in Newton County to be on the alert for the two, who they said had survival skills and were believed to be armed with knives and guns in the woods.
1 person shot, 2 wounded outside Macon Waffle House
MACON, Ga. (AP) — Police say they’re searching for two suspects after one person was shot and killed and two others were wounded in the parking lot of a Waffle House restaurant.
Macon police spokeswoman Jami Gaudet says the gunfire happened Sunday morning at the Waffle House on Chambers Road.
Police said officers found 20-year-old Christopher Crowder unresponsive in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to his face. He was later pronounced dead.
Authorities say another 20-year-old man was hospitalized with several gunshot wounds in the pelvic area. A 19-year-old woman was grazed by a bullet on her back, and was treated at a hospital and later released.
It was not immediately known what sparked the shootings.
