BOYS TEAM:
Jabari McGhee, Monroe
Height: 6-foot-7.
Year: Senior.
Position: Forward.
Why he’s here: Averaged 18 points and 11 rebounds as a junior and is the only returning Super 6 player from last season on this year’s team. He’s currently receiving interest from several Division I schools, including Georgia, Auburn, Ole Miss and Georgia Southern.
T.J. Cromer, Westover
Height: 6-foot.
Year: Senior.
Position: Guard.
Why he’s here: A slick ball-handler who can hit the outside shot or drive and finish. He led Westover in scoring as a junior, averaging 21.4 points per game.
Ramello Carter, Deerfield
Height: 5-foot-10.
Year: Senior.
Position: Guard.
Why he’s here: Carter has been the court leader at DWS for three years and led the Knights in scoring as a junior, averaging 19.5 points a game. He also averaged 3.5 assists and three steals a game.
Jermaine Hartsfield, Mitchell County
Height: 6-foot-4.
Year: Senior.
Position: Forward.
Why he’s here: Was a big reason the Eagles reached the Elite 8 round of the Class A state playoffs last year. He averaged a double-double (10 points,10 rebounds) and has been helped Herald No. 4 Mitchell start out 6-1 entering Saturday.
Kel Miller, Westover
Height: 6-foot-2.
Year: Senior.
Position: Forward.
Why he’s here: Valuable member of Westover’s state playoff team last season and has emerged as a leader this year for the 5-2 Patriots, averaging almost 20 points a game. He scored a career-high 28 against state No. 2 Tift recently.
Gary McCrae, Randolph-Clay
Height: 6-foot-5.
Year: Sophoore.
Position: Forward.
Why he’s here: It’s not often a sophomore makes this list, but McCrae is the real deal. Averaged a double-double last year as a freshman and is averaging the same this season for The Herald No. 3 Red Devils with 23 points and 12 rebounds a game.
GIRLS TEAM:
Nasheema Oliver, Crisp County
Height: 6-foot-2.
Year: Junior.
Position: Center.
Why she’s here: Averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds a game as a junior and has led the Lady Cougars in scoring and rebounding for the past two seasons. A double-double player every night and can dominate the game, Oliver is already getting numerous looks from major Division I programs.
Madi Mitchell, Crisp Academy
Height: 6-foot.
Year: Junior.
Position: Center.
Why she’s here: Clearly the best girls player in all of GISA who has led her team to the past two Class A state titles. She averaged 22 points and 11 rebounds and three blocks a game as a sophomore and is a averaging 23 points a game this year with at least 19 in seven of Crisp’s first 10 games.
Briunna Freeman, Pelham
Height: 5-foot-10.
Year: Soph.
Position: Forward.
Why she’s here: Averaged 17 points, 11 rebounds and three steals as a freshman and is Pelham’s leader and go-to-girl as a sophomore. She has scored 42 points in her first two games this season for The Herald No. 5-ranked Lady Hornets.
A'Miracle Jones, Mitchell County
Height: 5-foot-8.
Year: Junior.
Position: Forward.
Why she’s here: Led Mitchell County to the region title and a berth in the Elite 8 round of the Class A state playoffs as a sophomore last year as she averaged 17.6 points and 16.7 rebounds a game last season.
Brandi Buie, Calhoun County
Height: 5-foot-6.
Year: Junior.
Position: Guard.
Why she’s here: Is one of the top guards in Southwest Georgia and led Calhoun as a sophomore, averaging 22.4 points a game. She is off to another great year as a junior with four games of 20 points of more so far for the Lady Cougars.
Key Key Price, Monroe
Height: 5-foot-6.
Year: Sophomore.
Position: Guard.
Why she’s here: Emerged in the second half of the season last year as a freshman and was one of the big reasons Monroe reached the Elite 8. She is back as a sophomore and the leader of The Herald’s top-ranked girls team. She scored a career-high 29 points against Westover on Friday night.
