The recent senseless deaths of innocent children and adults, as seen in Connecticut, didn’t often happen when I was younger. That was before they stopped teaching morality in grammar school; forced the total separation of church and state; reduced the value of life to a “choice”; glorified violence on TV, in movies and video games; filed lawsuits to remove the Ten Commandments from public places; treated religion as the refuge for small minds, and endlessly advocated tolerance, which included the tolerance of improper behavior, and generally diminished civility to the trash bin of history.
Where do you see the emphasis on “respect for human life”? Instead, the media focuses on where did the guns come from, and what types of guns were used. In the case of these recent mass killings of students, it is not the guns that kill, it is the mental instability of the person pulling the trigger and the general lack of respect for human life. This is typically followed by a renewed liberal calling for bans on guns, or more gun controls. Consider that if there are multiple people killed in a bus accident, you do not read about, nor should you think about, banning buses. Logical and reasonable thinking must be prevalent in these cases.
We must focus on solving the root causes of these tragedies, and must not submit to kneejerk surface reactions. Let your family members know that you love them and appreciate them. Help your children and loved ones understand that life is too precious and too short to overlook these simple actions.
