ALBANY, Ga. — The Albany Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Bureau was successful Wednesday in apprehending Richard Cordero Lawless, 26, in connection to an armed robbery Tuesday evening at Krystal’s on North Slappey Boulevard.
About 8 p.m. Tuesday, police officers responded to the establishment in reference to an armed robbery. Upon their arrival, it was discovered that a light-skinned male had entered the restaurant, demanding money while waving a knife at the employees. During the robbery, the suspect cut an employee on the arm before snatching the register and leaving the restaurant, police say.
Initial reports indicated that there were three customers and four employees inside the Krystal’s at the time, and that the suspect was a black male in his late 40s wearing a plaid gray and green jacket with blue jeans and a scarf covering his face.
Warrants for armed robbery and aggravated assault were issued against Lawless on Wednesday afternoon. He was arrested at his place of employment, the Waffle House at 1608 U.S. Highway 19, by Albany police after they contacted the Lee County Sheriff’s Office because that restaurant is located in Lee County.
Anyone who has information regarding the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (229) 436-TIPS (8477) or contact investigators at (229) 878-3180.
