DAWSON -- Amelia Helton Barclay, 76, of Stockbridge, formerly of Macon and Parrott, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Dogwood Forest Assisted Living in Stockbridge. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Parrott Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Parrott City Cemetery. Chaplain Randy Perry and Rev. David Martin will officiate. A visitation will be held Saturday an hour prior to the service at Parrott Baptist Church.
Amelia was born in Parrott on July 18, 1936 to the late Charles Thearon Helton and the late Lois Batey Helton. She was a graduate of Mercer University and lived in Macon for more than 50 years. She worked as Administrative Assistant to Dr. Rufus Harris, former President of Mercer University. She was a member of Professional Secretaries International and was a former International President with the organization. She was a member of Gilead Baptist Church where she played the piano. She sang in the Senior Choir at Mabel White Baptist Church. Journalism was her favorite past time.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Joe Barclay, and her brother, Winston W. Helton. Survivors include her brothers, Charles S. Helton and his wife, Joan of Spring, Texas and Zaccheus T. Helton, and his wife, Cindy of Rex, Georgia; six nieces and nephews and twelve great-nieces and great-nephews.
