ALBANY, Ga. -- The Dougherty County School Board interviewed three interim superintendent candidates Thursday morning.

Incoming board members Lane Price and Robert Youngblood also participated in the interviews of Roy Brooks, David Mosely and Franklin Perry. All interviews were conducted in closed session.

School System Attorney Tommy Coleman said no decision was reached and that the board members would have to wait 14 days before voting on a temporary replacement for former superintendent Joshua Murfree.

The next regularly scheduled Board meeting is set for Jan. 14, but Coleman thinks Chairman James Bush may call a special session sometime early next month to name an interim.

After the meeting, none of the board members would reveal which of the three he or she favored.

"I was extremely impressed by each of the three candidates," board member Darrel Ealum said. "I think that any one of the three would do an excellent job of moving us forward and out of the situation we find ourselves in."

Member Velvet Riggins agreed.

"There were some new revelations today," she said. "But I think they are great, more-than-qualified candidates. We have a lot of information to digest."

Brooks, who was a finalist to replace former DCSS superintendent Sally Whatley in 2011, resides in Little Rock, Ark. He served as superintendent for the Sumter County schools in Americus 2010-12; chief executive officer of eStem Public Charter Schools Inc. in Little Rock 2007-10, and superintendent of Little Rock School District 2004-07.

Mosely resides in Climax and served as superintendent for Glynn County schools 1994-99; Vidalia city schools 1990-94, and the Decatur County School System 1985-90. He also served as interim superintendent for several counties, including the Coffee County School System, Mitchell County School System and Carroll County School System from 1999 to 2011.

Perry lives in Macon and served as superintendent for Twiggs County public schools from 2006 to 2009 and Sumter County schools 2002-05.

At another special called meeting on Monday, the Board named DCSS Executive Finance and Operations officer Kenneth Dyer acting superintendent pending the selection of the interim school chief.
