TIFTON -- Mr. Walter Donald "Don" Register, 74, of Waterloo died Thursday, December 27, 2012 in the Tift Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. in the Macedonia Baptist Church in Waterloo with Rev. Jack Perrin and Rev. Jeff Pangle officiating. Interment will follow in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 29, 2012, from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors.

Born on September 13, 1938 to the late Walter Joseph and Agness NeSmith Register in Waterloo, Mr. Register was a retired area forestry teacher for the Georgia Dept. of Education and was owned his own farm. He was a graduate of ABAC and received his Bachelor and Masters degree from the University of Georgia, and six year specialist degree from Valdosta State University. He also served as headmaster at Irwin Academy for six years and served as District Supervisor of Soil Conservation. In 2012 he received the J. E. Leger / Irwin County Farmer of the Year Award.

Survivors include: his wife, Mary Goodson Register; his daughters and son-in-law, Jenny Sutton, Angie and Jimmy Dunlap, and Kristi Register all of Waterloo; one brother Gerald Register of Waterloo; grandchildren Kari and Jeremy Chambers, Justin Sutton and Belle Register and one great-grandchild Jadyn Chambers.

Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to the Oncology Department at Tift Regional Medical Center, P.O. Box 747, Tifton, Georgia 31793, or to Hodgins/ Lymphoma Research at Emory University, 201 Dowman Drive, Atlanta GA 30322.
