ALBANY — The Albany Police Department is looking into the case of more $1,000 worth of equipment missing from an Albany church and authorities also are investigating accusations that someone shot a neighbor’s dog.
The church break-in is thought to have occurred between 1:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday at St. Peters Missionary Baptist Church at 1907 South Jackson St., an APD report states.
The report indicates that a $1,000 speaker system and a $70 microphone, both in good condition, were the items taken.
The police report narrative said that the restroom window on the north side of the building was broken.
The deadbolt for the rear door, which was the apparent point of exit, was unlocked.
The speakers, a Kirsch and a Prodigy K803 model, were taken from the front of the sanctuary.
Before the incident, there had been 10 church members there for practice Saturday.
Until the deacon reported the break-in, there had not been anyone in the church since 1:30 p.m that day, according to the report.
The case remains active.
Just before noon Sunday, there was a report of a cruelty-to-animals incident at the 2500 block of Cherokee Drive.
In that case, someone reported that a neighbor killed her dog with a pellet gun.
A woman living on that block went outside to check on her dog after she heard it yelping and found the dog bleeding from a wound to the chest.
A police report narrative states that the neighbor had shot the dog after he heard his daughter screaming.
At 3:30 p.m. Monday, APD officials said that no charges would be filed with the case.
