ALBANY - The Darton College Swim Team beat South Georgia College in 14 of 17 events Saturday to win the Region XVII Championship, and then won its invitational meet later that afternoon.
The Cavaliers have won the Region XVII Title since its inception in 2011.
Freshman Anna Macht broke Darton’s school record for the 200-yard backstroke, swimming a time of 2:09.82.
“It’s not even her event,” said Darton College swim coach Molly Gilbert. “We just wanted to see how she could swim it.”
Macht has set new school records for three events this season.
Still wet from winning the Region XVII trophy, the Darton program went into competition with LaGrange College and again with South Georgia College in the Darton Invational.
“No records were broken,” Gilbert said. “But they were still swimming well.”
The program will begin to taper early next week as they prepare for the NJCAA Championship Meet in Ft. Pierce, Fla., at the outdoor venue of Indian River Community College on March 7.
