Was it really necessary for Carlton Fletcher to “out” Lee Formwalt?
Sometimes ignorance truly is bliss, and the less we know about someone ... well, the better.
I was a student in Lee Formwalt’s history class at (then) Albany State College in the 1980s. He was a great teacher, both knowledgeable and personable.
Now, he has “come out” and announced a “choice” he made more than 10 years ago to give up his wife for a same-sex partner. His decision did not affect my life, but his lifestyle choice — and it was that — causes me sadness for his wife, children and for him.
He wrote that his wife was part of a panel discussing the struggles faced by straight spouses. I can only imagine how inadequate and confused she must have felt.
Formwalt also referred to this area as being homophobic. If he means the majority of Southerners believe in God’s Holy Word, and in His Word God calls homosexuality an abomination — well, that is true and I confess to be among the guilty. However, it is God who condemns, not I.
Christians cannot accept what God abhors and remain within His will. All are sinners, but the very act of becoming a Christian requires true repentance and a “turning away” of the old life in order to walk a better path that leads others to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior.

But can’t we be tolerate of others? We are creatures of the same God and surely he had his reason to make all of us. We are all sinners, some forgiven and some have not been. None are born “Christians” only through True repentance and a “turning away” of the old life in order to walk a better path with God do we become Christian. You may judge others for their actions but it is up to God to judge their worth and eternal fate. God will judge us by the same measure we judge others..... Let the one amongst us without sin throw the first stone.
