MACON – The 11th-seeded Sherwood Christian Eagles (13-11) were seconds away from a trip to the GIAA Final Four Saturday but a buzzer-beater from 3rd-seeded Furtah Prep ended Sherwood’s season with a 62-61 loss at First Presbyterian Day School in Macon.

“I’m so proud of our kids is somewhat of a cliché statement to make tonight,” head coach Kenny Roberts said. “The guys knew they had a big test ahead but overcame a lot of distractions that led up to the game and just played a great game. They had the ball last and made a shot at the buzzer to beat us. If we had the ball, we probably would’ve beaten them. It’s sports. That’s why you play the game. I’m so proud of our boys, our fans, and the support this whole season and it was a good run to the Elite Eight.” “Our team has nothing to hold their heads down about and our seniors continued the tradition of competing with excellence that we’re building here at Sherwood Christian Academy.”

Senior Braylon Cheney led the Eagles with 29 and junior Tripp Roberts 15 points and 14 rebounds.
