ASHBURN -- The funeral services for the late Mrs. Verdine Cushion of 220 West End Avenue , Ashburn , GA , who departed this life on Friday, February 10, 2012 at her residence, will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. from the Greater St. Luke Baptist Church in Ashburn , GA with the pastor, Reverend James King, officiating. Burial will follow the Westview Memorial Cemetery in Ashburn , GA.
Verdine Cleveland Cushion, lovingly known as "Dean" to many, was born in Rebecca , GA on November 29, 1943.
She gave her life to Christ at an early age, and joined Greater St. Luke Baptist Church. She served as a member of the Usher Board.
She graduated from Eureka High School in Ashburn in 1961.
She worked as a Cafeteria Worker and Nurse's Aide in St. Petersburg , FL , before entering her 30-year career with the United States Postal Service in Miami , FL . Verdine retired in 1999, after many years of dedicated service. Upon retirement, she moved back to Ashburn , GA and worked for an organization known as Youth In Action-a tutoring program for young girls and boys, in which the children cherished her, and she was able to make a difference in their lives.
She leaves to cherish her memories a daughter, Melinda Armstrong of Miramar, FL; a son, Olin L. (Sharise) Cushion, Jr. of Miami, FL; five grandchildren; sisters, Betty Brown, Sarah Smith, both of Ashburn, GA, Brooksie Ponder of Albany, GA; brother, Leroy (Mildred) Cleveland, Jr. of Guthrie KY; aunt, Laura Armstrong of Orlando, FL; uncle, Wallace Edge of Ashburn, GA
