ALBANY — A 1-6 start is not what the Albany State baseball team had in mind.
But the road back to .500 — and above — got a shot in the arm Friday during the Rams’ 2012 home opener.
ASU swept Selma University, 4-3, in Game 1 and 5-2 in Game 2.
Ken Nesbitt (7 IP, 4 hits, 4 Ks) earned the win in the opener as the Rams took a 2-0 lead into the top of the fourth before Selma tied it. ASU them responded with one run in each of the next two innings to secure the win.
Three Rams finished with multi-hit games, including Donte Williams (2-for-4, 2B, run scored, RBI), Rickey Harris (2-for-4, run scored, RBI) and Stephen Lightfoot (2-for-3, RBI), while reigning conference Player of the Year Williams Smalls jacked a solo HR, finishing 1-for-3 with an RBI.
In Game 2, Selma jumped out a 2-0 lead before ASU responded by scoring two in the bottom of the third and three in the bottom of the fifth to seal the win.
Uwen Odofia (1 2/3 IP, one hit, 4 Ks) earned the win in relief for Clifford Peterson, who had only allowed four hits before being pulled.
Leading ASU at the plate in Game 2 was Smalls (2-for-4, RBI) and Tevin Collins (2-for-3, RBI).
ASU returns to action Tuesday at Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Fla.
