PELHAM — Pelham football players Robert Dill and Elijah Haywood signed to play for Missouri Valley College one week after National Signing Day.
Dill, a 6-foot, 190-pound offensive guard and defensive tackle, was a first-team All-Region selection out of Region 1-A this past season after grading out at 85 percent on the offensive line and recording 57 tackles on defense, while also leading the Hornets in sacks. Dill plans to play defensive end/outside linebacker in Missouri Valley’s 3-4 defensive scheme, according to Pelham head coach Frankie Carroll.
Haywood, a 5-foot-7, 170-pound defensive back, picked off three passes and finished with 32 tackles his senior season at Pelham High. Haywood was a second-team All-Region selection for the Hornets, who finished 4-6 in 2011.
Carroll said game film was sent to close to 50 colleges, which led to the signings of Dill and Haywood, and more Hornets are expected to ink with colleges before the school year ends.
Missouri Valley College is a NAIA school in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. The Vikings went 9-1 in the 2011 regular season and were co-champions of the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
