ALBANY, Ga. -- While a shootout on West Tift Avenue is being investigated, the Albany Police Department says a man has been arrested in connection to an incident in which someone was hit by a car and then robbed.

At 8:45 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to the Woodall's store at 1500 N. Slappey Blvd. in reference to a shooting, police officials say.

"The victims reported that shortly after arriving in the 600 block of West Tift Avenue alley, they heard a gun shot," according to an email sent out by the APD to media outlets regarding the incident. "They said shortly after that the suspects drove up near their vehicle, and began shooting at them. They said, at that time, they drove to Woodall's and called the police department. The victims' vehicle was observed to have several bullet holes on the driver's side."

There were six victims in the shootout including Jarrell Stroud Sr., 39; Jane Stroud, 51; Brandon Stroud, 14; Darren Stroud, 12; Dezire Stroud, 19, and Jarrell Stroud Jr., 17.

The group was in a silver, 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander. No one was reported injured in the incident.

The suspects were described as two black males wearing dark clothing. They were reported to have been driving a white, older model Cadillac with fancy rims.

Earlier in the day, just before 2 p.m., there was a case involving an 18-year-old reportedly getting hit by a vehicle and then robbed at 1100 University Drive.

"Upon their (the officers') arrival they made contact with the victim and witnesses," an email sent out by the APD on Sunday said. "The witnesses advised that the suspect, who was driving a white Charger, chased the victim as he was running on foot around a house.

"According to the witnesses, the victim apparently got tired of running and the suspect hit him with his vehicle. While the suspect was lying injured in the street, the suspect got out of his vehicle and went through the victim's pockets."

The Dougherty County Police Department apprehended Dionte Nelson, 20, on the 6500 block of Gillionville Road in connection with the incident. He has been charged with aggravated assault, robbery by force and aggravated battery.

The victim, Michael Ross, was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. At mid-afternoon Monday, a hospital spokeswoman said he was in serious condition.

We need to crank up the gas chamber in this State of Georgia and staff it 24/7 until all this kind of riff raff is gone. Gone for good. And the fear of God returns to this Country.
