Albany Panthers to play on Phoebe Field

This morning, the Albany Panthers and Phoebe Health System reached an agreement giving the healthcare company naming rights to the Civic Center field for Panther home games. The field will be called Phoebe Field.

Here is the news release:

The 2011 Champion Albany Panthers and Phoebe Putney Health System announced today a partnership for the naming rights to the team's home field. The agreement, announced this morning from the Panthers headquarters, provides that the field will be called Phoebe Field at the Albany/ James H. Gray Civic Center beginning in the Spring of 2012.

“Having the Phoebe name on the field signifies our good neighbor philosophy,” said Joe Austin, Chief Operating Officer at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. “The Panthers represent our community here and on the road. They are an important attraction for those of us who live here and for bringing visitors to our city with good wholesome fun and sports. We wish them a successful season.”

As part of the extended agreement, Phoebe will receive field branding and become a sponsor of the Albany Youth Indoor Football League along with other benefits.

“This was a great opportunity for the Panthers to create a unique platform with a partner that also has a deep commitment to the Albany community,” said Will Carter, Panthers general manager. “We hope Phoebe Field continues to give the team an important home field advantage while providing many exciting memories for our fans.”

Having the Phoebe name on the field signifies you have too many $$$, Joe. Another step towards a name change to Phoebeville, I guess.

Maybe Phoebe should clear up its ICU infection rates and other healthcare quality issues before it branches out into football.

Signifies their good neighbor policy my &%$$$! Phoebe is looking to take over Albany. I agree, stick to the medical field and stay out of sports! Maybe Chehaw can sell out to Phoebe and we could have The Phoebe Zoo, or maybe instead of getting an Olive Garden, we could move in a Phoebe Garden in that location. Or the Phoebe Hotel, or how about Phoebe mini-golf and bowling??? Give me a break. Its freakin hilarious!!! We aren't stupid, Joel Wernick!!!

There goes Wernick and Company throwing around OUR money again. They could not care less about the Albany Panthers. All this amounts to is buying the public sentiment, i.e., "look at ALL the great things Phoebe does...they REALLY support our community..." I guess this will end up on the Form 990 as "Community Benefits?" They can't call it advertising...they don't need to advertise...there's no competition!

And, let me guess, as part of the deal, Phoebe received "x" number of season tickets...no, wait, box seats for the administration to enjoy...while the common folk pay their own way. But, of course, no one cares, so, why do I bother?

I'll never understand why people here feel threatened by Phoebe. Is there some other enterprise that does more for this town?

Was somebody else in line to pay for the naming? Incredibly unlikely.

If I understand correctly, even Ray Charles' estate is trying to claw back money from Albany that was mismanaged.

PHOEBE Field will that be configured according to Phoebe’s concept of a level playing field? Or maybe Phoebe can teach the Panthers a new style of playing,if you can’t beat them head to head you just squeeze them out. Either way a tilted field or total annihilation should make for some interesting football.
