Officer to discuss teens, drugs

ALBANY, Ga. — Teenagers sometimes know more about drugs than adults. Interested residents can find out about local drug issues at Saturday’s Town Hall meeting.

Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit Maj. Bill Berry plans to focus on the use of methamphetamine, prescription drugs, crack cocaine and other drugs by teenagers in a presentation at 10 a.m. in the East Albany Community Center, 1721 E. Oglethorpe Blvd.

“There is also spice, the synthetic marijuana, that is in use here in Dougherty County and other counties around our area,” Berry said. “I’ll have some illustrations on hand so people will know what they are dealing with.”

The meeting is the first monthly 2012 Town Hall held by Albany City Commissioner Jon Howard.

“I strongly encourage you to attend this meeting and ask questions or make comments about Illegal drugs in your neighborhood,” Howard said. “If you are concerned as I am, please invite your minister, business and community leaders, friends, neighbors and our students and youth to the meeting.”
