SAVANNAH — Shontae McCall wasn’t about to let South Georgia Tech’s undefeated regular season be alll for nothing.
The Region XVII Player of the Year scored a season-high 36 points to lead the Lady Jets to a 77-70 victory against Middle Georgia in Friday’s semifinal game of the Region XVII Tournament.
The victory sets up a title game at 1:30 p.m. today against Georgia Perimeter, which knocked off Darton in Friday’s second semifinal game, 56-34.
“It was a battle. It got real, real tight,” South Georgia Tech coach Brandan Harrell said of Friday’s win. “Their kids were playing so hard. They were getting lose balls, getting offensive rebounds. We just tried to regroup and tried to step it up a little defensively and figure out away to make a shot.”
McCall had little trouble figuring out how to make shots. She was 15-of-18 from the field and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line with 12 rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Also for SGT (24-8), Samantha Phillips scored 14 and Shanique Holston had 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Darton (20-8) shot just 22 percent from the field and didn’t have a player score more than eight points in the loss, which ended the program’s first season under coach Lea Henry.
“We had a great year,” Henry said. “The kids played hard. We just didn’t knock down shots or make good decisions under pressure. It was a good team that beat us.”
Michelle Mitchell led the Lady Cavs with eight points, and Christina Brown added seven.
