ALBANY -- J. W. "Bo" Wortman, 81, of Albany, GA, died Saturday, February 25, 2012 at the Willson Hospice House.

His funeral service will be Tuesday 2 PM at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church with interment to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Leigh Ann Raynor will officiate with eulogies presented by David Clayton and Dr. Glenn Dowling.

Mr. Wortman was born in and was a life-long resident of Albany. He graduated from Albany High School in 1947 and went to work that same year with the S. J. Curry Company, which became Alcon Construction Co. He spent his entire career with Alcon, retiring in 2002 as its Chairman of the Board. He was a member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church. Mr. Wortman was very active in professional and civic associations; including serving as Past President of the Thronateeska Heritage Foundation, serving on many committees of the Albany Chamber of Commerce, as well as its Treasurer, serving as the first President of the Southwest Georgia Chamber of Commerce, serving on the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Dougherty County Kiwanis Club, serving on the Board of Directors of the Allied General Contractors, member of Doublegate Country Club, and serving on various committees of the United Way of Albany. He refereed high school football games in the State of Georgia for over 30 years as a member of the Albany Football Referees Association. Mr. Wortman was very active in Albany Lodge 713 B.P.O.E., serving as a past Exalted Ruler, and on many committees, and was a past president of the Georgia Elks Association. He also served on the Grand Lodge 2 different times, once as the Chairman of the Americanism Committee, second as the Special Deputy to the Grand Exalted Ruler for 7 years.

Mr. Wortman is survived by his wife: Nannette Snipes Wortman, Albany; a son: Keith Wortman and his wife Randie, Thomasville, GA; a daughter: Twila Mathews and her husband Steve, Albany; 5 grandchildren: Leslie Collins and her husband Chris, Bluffton, SC, Brian Wortman and his wife Evan, Thomasville, GA, Michael Spurlin and his wife Karla, Leesburg, Andrew Spurlin, Atlanta, Molly Saft and her husband Andrew, Atlanta; 1 great grandchild: India Collins, Bluffton, SC; a brother: Henry Clinton Wortman and his wife Sandra, Quitman, GA; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern on Monday from 6-8 PM.
