Area students present art for competition
ALBANY — The Dougherty and Lee County school students art will be on display again during the 2012 Student Art Competition & Exhibit.
The contest is open to private and public schools and more than 300 entries are expected this year. The Dougherty Kiwanis Club will sponsor the event.
Judging of the event will take place today at the Albany Area Arts Council building. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony set for 2 p.m. March 18 at the Albany Museum of Art. The art will remain on display in the museum’s Willson Auditorium through April 13.
From April 15-29 elementary school students art will be displayed outside of the Sears wing in the Albany Mall. From April 29-May 13 the middle and high school students art will displayed throughout the Albany Mall.
On April 28 the Kiwanis Club Art Committee chair will deliver the top eight local art entries to Georgia Kiwanis District statewide competition at the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center in Carrollton.
Benefit to support new market
TIFTON — The Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village will host a benefit for the new Wiregrass Farmers Market. The evening will begin at 5:20 p.m. on Friday. Dinner guests will be treated to foods grown locally and prepared by area chefs and cooks. The menu will consist of Southern cooking with a gourmet flair. The wine loft will also provide dinner guests with a sampling of Georgia wines.
After sampling some of the goods and meeting so of the local artisans dinners will take a ride on the steam train to the Village and enjoy a lamp lit stroll to three historic sites to sample food and wine. Dessert and coffee will be served under the pole barn were diners can meet the market’s farmers.
Tickets are $20 per person and must be purchased in advanced.
