Murfree to host Community Forum
Dougherty County School Superintendent Joshua Murfree will host a Community Forum Monday, at 7 p.m. at the Westvover High School Auditorium.
The community is invited to learn more about the direction, success and challenges of educating the children and youth of our community. This is the third forum hosted by Murfree, who will present an overview of system plans to provide “Academic Achievement Beyond All Expectations.”
All parents, faculty, partners, community stakeholders and interested parties are invited.
Darlington Chapter Inductee
Anna Marie Scoccimaro of Albany has been inducted as a student member of the Darlington Chapter of the Cum Laude Society, which is the highest academic honor that can be given to a student at Darlington School in Rome.
Scoccimaro is a senior at Darlington and has been there as a boarding student since ninth grade. She will be attending Davidson College in North Carolina after graduation and plans to study journalism.
Students must have an A (93 or higher) average for all four years and must have taken at least eight Honors or AP courses in four years.
She is the daughter of Susan and Ralph Scoccimaro of Albany.
Knight Design Winner
Benson Knight is the Southeastern Regional winner of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for his scenic design of the play Vinegar Tom.
As a national finalist, he will compete in Washington DC at The Kennedy Center in April.
Benson holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre from the University of Central Florida and is a 2006 graduate of Deerfield Windsor School.
He is the son of Marie and John Knight of Albany.
Area students named to South Georgia College Dean’s List
A total of 162 South Georgia College students have earned a spot on the 2011 Fall Semester Dean’s List, according to an announcement by Vice President for Academic Affairs Carl B. McDonald. In addition, 33 students earned a spot on the Dean’s List for Part-Time Students

Richter Named To Samford University Dean’s List
Kelsey V. Richter of Albany has been named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester at Samford University.
To qualify for the honor, a student must have earned a minimum 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0 while attempting at least 12 credit hours of coursework. The Dean’s List is the highest academic recognition given by the school at the end of each semester.
Blackburn is Youth Summit Delegate
Amanda Blackburn, a student at Lee County High School has been selected to represent Georgia as a National Youth Delegate to the 2012 Washington Youth Summit on the Environment at George Mason University.
Amanda joins a select group of just 250 students from all over the country honored with the opportunity for an intensive study of leadership in environmental science and conservation.
She was chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest and excellence in leadership in the sciences and conservation studies.
Darton now accepting RN to BSN applications
Darton College has announced that the Nursing Division is now accepting applications for its first RN
to BSN class to begin Fall 2012.
Application, admission,
and program information can be found on the nursing division Web site at http://www.darton.edu/programs/nursing/
Following enrollment of this first class, the next admission is planned for Fall 2013 and again for Spring 2014, after which the college will continue with fall and spring admissions.
