LEESBURG, Ga. -- Lee County commissioners voted Tuesday evening to approve construction changes on the library/conference center being built of U.S. Highway 82 during the commission's abbreviated February business meeting.
The board voted unanimously to amend its contract with TTL Construction to allow for $40,000 to be used on changes to roof trusses and soil inspection at the library site. The contract had originally called for $32,500 to be spent on those items.
The commission also approved an easement request from Georgia Power Co. that will allow the utility access to distribute electrical service lines underground at the library/conference center.
Commissioner Rick Muggridge asked for and received a consensus agreement from the commission on a request that Mainenenace Supervisor John Patrick develop short-term and long-term building maintenance plans that may be used as a "road map" for maintenance of county-owned buildings.
"Certainly John Patrick knows what needs to be done (at all facilities), but if he were to be hit by a bus I don't know that there's anyone else who does," Muggridge said. "I think it would be a good idea to have a written maintenence plan that we could use as a road map in the event of an emergency."
Patrick said it would make sense to first put together a checklist from which a plan might be formulated.
"Of course we can plan all we want, but if we don't get the funding we need things just keep getting worse from year to year," the maintenance supervisor said.
In other action at the meeting, the commission agreed to grant Amandeep Singh an off-premise pouring license for wine and malt beverages at his Shop Rite establishment at 1572 U.S. Highway 19 South; approved an extension of the office of circuit public defender contract through June 30; OK'd a statewide mutual aid agreement, and approved the budget calendar for the 2012-13 fiscal year.
The board tabled action requested on a proposal to relocate utility poles on Flowing Well Road because, County Manager Tony Massey said, the county had not yet received information requested from Georgia Power.
