ALBANY — Campaign officials for GOP Presidential contender Mitt Romney says that Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens will lead efforts in Georgia to get Romney solidified as the nominee.
Fresh off primary wins in Arizona and Michigan, the Romney campaign is moving ahead into states that will hold primaries on "Super Tuesday," March 6.
In a press statement issued Wednesday, campaign officials announced Olens will lead Romney's Georgia steering committee, which consists of state senators, representatives, mayor's and sheriff's from around the state.
“Mitt Romney’s plan for more jobs, less debt and smaller government is one of the many reasons that Georgia conservatives are getting behind his campaign,” said Attorney General Sam Olens. “The Steering Committee has been hard at work spreading Mitt Romney’s pro-growth message and will continue the hard work of defeating President Obama in November.”
Romney has emerged as the front runner in the GOP field of presidential contenders which includes former Senator Rick Santorum, Rep. Ron Paul, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
The list of Romney supporters in Southwest Georgia is scarce.
The only SOWEGA counties on the list of those with Romney campaign chairs are Stewart County and Tift County.
There are none listed for Dougherty, Lee, Worth, Baker, Mitchell or Terrell.
The head of Romney's supporters for the 2nd Congressional District is listed as Tom Morrill, a Republican party official from Byron.
