ALBANY, Ga. — Violent crime in Albany started the new year with an early morning shooting on the 300 block of Slater King Drive.

Robyn Lashona Brown, 31, suffered a gunshot to the left leg as she tried to escape her apartment at 303 Slater King Drive when an intruder burst through the door about 4:10 a.m., according to an Albany Police Department report.

The police are searching for 38-year-old Cedric Demond Pittman as the suspected shooter, said Phyllis Banks, police spokeswoman. He left the scene in a gray vehicle, she added.

According to the report, Brown and two unnamed men were starting to leave the apartment when Pittman “rushed into her apartment. Pulled out a small black handgun and pointed it at two of her male guests. As they ran out of the front door of the apartment, Pittman fired at them, striking Brown.”

The two men suffered minor injuries while fleeing the shooter, the report added. Brown was taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for treatment. She was released the same day, said a hospital spokeswoman.
