ALBANY — It was a sweet homecoming for Albany State, which swept rival Fort Valley State on Saturday night in two huge conference games.
And both ASU teams had to come back to do it.
The ASU Rams erased a 37-30 halftime deficit to win, 78-71, as Justin Wilcox, a former Albany Tech star, led the way with 17 points. Rachard Lofton scored 13 and Demarcus Blunt added 11 for the Rams (3-4 in the conference and 4-5 overall). Fort Valley State is now 3-4 in the conference and 3-6 overall.
The ASU women, who trailed 45-34 at halftime, scored 54 points in the second half to win 88-83 against a Fort Valley team that had been unbeaten in conference play. The Lady Rams (4-3 in conference play and 4-7 overall) got points from everywhere as five players scored double figures.
Kourtney Alexander (18 points), former Bainbridge star April Thomas (16), Symone Wilkerson (15), Breanna Fields (12) and Nikki Wilson (11) — all led the comeback.
Former Americus-Sumter star Jayme Gilbert led Fort Valley (6-1 in conference play and 8-3 overall) with 20 points.
