A Dougherty County ambulance arrives at the Sleep Inn on Dawson Road Monday afternoon to take the body of a 21-year-old woman who Albany Police Department officials said committed suicide.
ALBANY ALBANY — The case of a woman found dead at the Sleep Inn on Dawson Road on Monday has been ruled a suicide, officials with the Albany Police Department have said.
The hotel, located at 1525 Dawson Road, called the APD at 11:30 a.m. after they had found the woman in her room with a gunshot wound.
The 21-year-old white woman, whose identity was not disclosed Monday pending notification of kin, was discovered by a housekeeper while she was opening the rooms for the exterminator.
Detectives with the APD were at Sleep Inn grounds early Monday afternoon investigating the death.
Police officials said the woman was from Bonifay, Fla. — located approximately 120 miles southwest of Albany — and had checked into room 210 of the hotel on Wednesday. It was not known yet on Monday evening how long it had been since she was last seen alive.
A letter was found in the room, said APD spokeswoman Phyllis Banks.
The body was removed from the scene at around 2 p.m. via a Dougherty County ambulance. Nothing further was available on the incident Monday.
