CUTHBERT -- Eleanor King Coleman, 95, of Ft. Gaines died January 14, 2012 at her residence. Funeral services will be held January 17 at 2 p.m. at the Ft. Gaines United Methodist Church with the Rev. Martin Loyley officiating. Interment will follow immediately at New Park Cemetery in Ft. Gaines. Pallbearers will be nephews and close family friends.
Mrs. Coleman was born in Ft. Gaines on August 18, 1916, daughter of the late P.C. and Elizabeth (Bessie) Morris King. She was a lifelong resident of Ft. Gaines and a lifetime member of the Ft. Gaines United Methodist Church. She was a past member of the Ft. Gaines Garden Club and the Ft. Gaines Women's Club. She attended North Georgia College in Dalonega.
Mrs. Coleman assisted her late husband with the management of the S.D. Coleman Nursery and Azalea Trail during its operation. She loved music, reading, especially her Bible and devotional books, nature, bird watching, and flowers. She enjoyed making flower arrangements for the church, for many social events, and just for sharing with others. Throughout her lifetime she had a very religious and positive outlook on life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband S.D. Coleman, Jr.; three brothers: P.C. King, Jr., W.W. King, and Fred M. King; and two sisters, Mary K. Powell and Nettie K. Fisher.
Survivors include a son, S.D. (Steve) Coleman, III and Rhonda of Blakely; two daughters: Caroline Coleman of Ft. Gaines and Elizabeth (Betty) C. Clewis and Fred of Charlotte, NC; a grandson, Scott D. Coleman and Ann of St. Simons Island; a great-grandson, S. Daniel Coleman; two sisters: Elizabeth K. Folger of Nashville, TN and Gabie K. Chambers of Columbus; a sister-in-law, Doris C. Gilreath of Travelers Rest, SC; a brother-in-law, Ronald Fisher of Decatur; a number of nieces and nephews, and three devoted faithful caregivers: Georgia Ann Jackson, Darlene White, and Alice Pete all of Ft. Gaines.
Visitation will be held Monday, January 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the home of Steve and Rhonda Coleman, 262 S. Church St., Blakely, GA.
