LEESBURG, Ga. — Two teenage boys found a Sig Sauer .40 caliber pistol loaded with 12 hollow-tip rounds in its magazine sitting on a sink in a Publix Supermarket men’s room Monday afternoon, according to a Lee County Sheriff’s Office report.

According to reports the boys, who remain anonymous, told the Leesburg Publix store manager about what they found. The manager took the gun from the rest room to the store office and called deputies.

After running the gun’s serial number through the Georgia Crime Information Center database, deputies could not locate any information on who owns the gun, the report stated. The gun was not reported stolen.

If the owner claims the gun, charges stemming from leaving the gun in the men’s room are pending, said Lee County Chief Deputy Lewis Harris. If necessary federal agencies could be used to find the owner, he added.

According to the

website sigsauerguns.com a new pistol of this type could cost anywhere

from $500 to more than $1,000 depending on model.

Publix managers at the 1212 S. Highway 19 store wouldn’t talk about the incident. Questions were referred to the email

address of Publix representative Dwaine Stevens.

He did not reply to email.
