Edwards 'confident' in grand jury's decisions

ALBANY -- Murder indictments came down from the Dougherty Judicial Circuit Grand Jury Tuesday in the case involving the death of an Albany police officer, a court clerk confirmed.

The Grand Jury indicted Kentrell Bernard Butler and Wesley Martavi Wilkerson on felony murder charges in the death of Albany Police Officer Terry Lewis-Flemming, who pursued them after an armed robbery, according to court papers.

The Grand Jury also indicted Jessica Renae Anderson for her role in the armed robbery. According to the indictment, Anderson conspired in the robbery by providing the gun and driving Butler and Wilkerson to the robbery.

Edwards presented the Grand Jury's 23 members with evidence that crimes such as armed robbery, aggravated assault on a police officer and reckless driving resulted in the felony murder of Lewis-Flemming.

According to the indictment, the crimes started Oct. 28 when Butler and Wilkerson armed themselves with a .38-caliber pistol and took to the road to rob Consolidated Loan Company and its employees.

In their attempt to elude police officers after the robbery, the pair drove recklessly and rammed an Albany Dougherty Drug Unit 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe at high speed, endangering the life of George Camp, drug agent, the indictment added.

During their attempt to elude police they also tried to "strike Shawn Bell, a peace officer, with an automobile ... during a high speed chase," the indictment stated.

According to the indictment, Butler and Wilkerson "while in the commission of the offense of fleeing a police officer, a felony, did cause the death of Terry Lewis-Flemming."

The indictment listed 16 counts against Butler and Wilkerson including two of felony murder and one of homicide by vehicle in the first degree.

The second murder indictment named Timothy O'Neil Bell, Shongrevius Devontrez Morgan and Marcus Jermaine Price in connection with the killing of Melvin Jerome Green.

The indictment states that individually or as partners Bell and Price shot Green twice at about 4:50 p.m., on Oct. 27 at the 2304 Gordon Ave., Windover Apartments. They are charged with felony and malice murder.

Morgan is also charged with hindering apprehension or punishment of a criminal in connection with the murder.
