SYLVESTER -- Mrs. Jewell Eady Slappey, 95, of Sumner died Saturday, January 21, 2012 at her residence. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 23, 2012 at the Pine Hill Baptist Church with interment to follow in the Sumner Cemetery with Rev. Donnie Wright, Rev. Jason Jones and Rev. Wallace Willis officiating.
Mrs. Slappey was born on April 12, 1916 in Worth County to the late Perry and Betty Jane Giles Eady. She was a lifetime resident of Worth County and had lived in Sumner since 1964. She was the former owner/operator of the Sumner Trading Post. Mrs. Slappey enjoyed crocheting, fishing and was a member of the Pine Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons Edward Slappey (Faye) of Sumner and Leonard Slappey (Carole) of Anderson City; daughter in-law, Connie Slappey of New Bern, NC; sister, Evelyn R. Guarnieri of Sumner; grandchildren, Blake Slappey (Stephanie), Jill Slappey, Lauren "Nikki" Slappey, Kristi Bryan (Reid), Kasey Slappey, Shamra Slappey and Brandyn Slappey; great grandson, Broxton Slappey and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Slappey was preceded in death by her husband John Lamar Slappey, Jr., and two sons Richard Slappey and Johnny Slappey.
The family will receive friends on Sunday (TODAY) from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Banks Funeral Home.
