ALBANY -- Mr. Donald (Don) "Luckey" Barfield Luckey, 70, of 1904 Palmyra Road, died January 22, 2012 at the Palmyra Nursing Home due to a short battle with Leukemia.
Funeral services will be held at Wednesday, January 25, 2012, 11 AM at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors Chapel at 1503 Dawson Road, Albany, Ga. Pastor Mark Amspaugh will officiate at the services. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors. Visitation with family will be at Kimbrell-Stern on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 from 6 -8 PM. The family will receive family and friends at 1907 Pineknoll Lane, Albany, GA.
Don Luckey was born October 9, 1941 in Crisp County, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents; Samuel Barfield Luckey who was born in Camilla, GA, and Marjorie Bell Pitts Luckey who was born in Albany, GA; his adoptive paternal grandparents, Thomas Jefferson Luckey and Ethel Lee Hart Luckey of Camilla, GA; and his adoptive maternal grandparents, Robert Lee Pitts I and Minnie Lee Bouchelle Pitts of Albany, GA. Don attended public schools in Albany and worked in various jobs in Albany, Moultrie and surrounding towns. He was a member of the Georgia National Guard and U. S. Army Reserves before joining the U. S. Marine Corps.
As a Marine he was proud to have served in South Viet Nam. He received many awards during his service to his country. These included the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Cross of Gallentry and Good Conduct Medal.
He is survived by his brother, Sam Luckey and his wife Gail McDaniel Luckey of Columbia, SC; sisters, Mrs. Cecile Luckey Newsome and her husband John of Titusville, FL; Mrs. Leigh Luckey Davis of Shellman, GA; step-mother, Edna Elizabeth Bennett Luckey of Albany, GA; step-brother Robert Charles Luckey and his wife Kelly of Peachtree City, GA; step-sisters Mrs. Barbara "Bobbie" Houston Cohen and her husband Barry of Albany, GA and Mrs. Therlus Houston Deen and her husband Jimmy of Albany, GA. He is survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Don's friends and staff of Palmyra Nursing Home and Albany Community Hospice for their devoted care.
