SYLVESTER -- Mr. Ira J. Nichols, 71, of Poulan died Sunday January 22, 2012 at his residence.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday January 24, 2012 at Banks Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in the Poulan Cemetery with Rev. Mike DeLoach officiating.

Mr. Nichols was born on May 4, 1940 to the late Charlie Clifford and Katherine Elizabeth Shattles Nichols in Dawson, Ga. and has lived in Poulan since 1971. He was employed by Coats and Clark as a supervisor and later retired from Consolidated Freight in 2002. Following his retirement he went to work part time with Napa in Sylvester. Mr. Nichols was an avid Nascar fan, who loved Dale Earnhardt, fishing and his man cave.

Survivors his wife Frances Key Nichols of Poulan; daughters, Myla N. Gunter (Chad) of Sylvester; son, Greg Crocker (Gina) of Sylvester; grandchildren, Lea Anna and Chance Crocker, Hannah and Marley Gunter; sister, Betty Steele of Jackson, GA; brothers, Steve and Richard Nichols of Albany.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2:00 PM until service hour at Banks Funeral Home.
