DAWSON -- Lillie Mae Newton Griffin, 100, formerly of Dawson, passed away on January 23, 2012 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center in Americus. Funeral services will be held at Harvey Funeral Chapel at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 27, 2012. Rev. Eddie Braswell will officiate. A visitation will be held at Harvey Funeral Home on Thursday, January 26, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Mae was born in Colquitt County on June 21, 1911 to the late Isaac Lee Newton and the late Donna Dean Jolly Newton. She was a member of the Dawson United Methodist Church, Epworth Sunday School Class, Circle Two of the Dawson United Methodist Women, the Dawson Business and Professional Women's Club, and the Garden Club. She was also very active in the Terrell County Home Demonstration Club.
Survivors include son, Ernest Newton Anthony (Nancy) of Universal City, TX; daughter, Sue Anthony Brown of Sebring, FL; sister, Donna N. Fulford of Conyers; grandchildren, Denise Smith (Jeff) of Beavercreek, OH, Rodney Anthony (Vicki) of Brighton, CO, Robbyn Michalka (Mitchell) of Victoria, TX, Karen Andrews (Tim) of Sebring, FL, and David Brown of Cocoa Beach, FL; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
