ALBANY -- Deacon Raymond Redmon died January 22, 2012 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 10, 1939 in Saginaw, Michigan. As a member of the Greater United Pleasant Green Baptist Church of Leesburg, GA he was an active member of the Deacon's Board, Chairman of the Sisterhood Ministry and former Financial Chairman for many years.
Retired Master Sgt. Raymond Redmon served twenty seven years in the United States Marine Corps. In 1985, Major Redmon joined the staff of the Dougherty County Jail and became Director of Inmates and Housing where he retired in 2001 after sixteen years of dedicated service.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of twenty five years, Mrs. Ethel Johnson Redmon of Albany, GA; one son, Renate Redmon (Julie) of Mesa, AZ; three daughters, Josephine Redmon of Elizabeth, NJ, Brenda F. Blackshear and Beverly K. Thomas both of Albany, GA; one sister, Mrs. Margret McClendon of Minden, LA; eight grandchildren, Zandria, Clifford, Brandy, Jodie, John, Justin, Rylan and Vincent; seven brother-in-laws, Rev. A. L. Johnson, Sr., (Barbara) of Leesburg, GA, Rev. Jack Johnson, Sr., (Sandra) of Edison, GA, Rev. Dock Johnson (Eurliee) of Jamaica, NY, Raymond Johnson (Sharon) of East Point, MI, Joseph Johnson, Sr., (Flossie) of Albany, GA, Milton Johnson, Sr., (Yvonne) of Leesburg, GA and Emanuel Johnson (Faye) of Albany, GA; three sister in-laws, Jeanette Johnson and Annie Burkes (Kennedy) both of Detroit, MI and Anne Johnson Milledge (Rev. Larry) of Leesburg, GA; devoted friends and family, Ms. Belinda Amankwaa and Mr. Adansi "Felix" Amankwaa; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 11:00 AM from the Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church at 1501 Newton Road with Pastor Andrew E. McDowell, Jr., officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM before the service.
Family visitation will be held today, Friday, January 27, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 PM from the Greater United Pleasant Green Baptist Church at 1512 Philema Road in Lee County.
