ALBANY — An Albany State University professor in the College of Arts and Humanities has been selected for an honor reserved for distinguished alumni of the University of Iowa, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
James L. Hill, professor of English and chair of the Department of English, Modern Languages and Mass Communication at ASU, was selected to be a member of the 2012 Class of Liberal Arts and Sciences Alumni Fellows at the University of Iowa.
“I am astounded,” Hill said. “I had no inkling that I had been nominated or selected. I am, however, truly grateful to the University of Iowa for such an honor.”
As a CLAS Alumni Fellow, Hill will be invited to return to the university next September for a two-day visit to meet with students and faculty.
The Department of History — which nominated Hill for the honor of Alumni Fellow — the Department of American Civilization and the African American Studies Program at Iowa will coordinate Hill’s schedule, including class visits, informal meetings with faculty and students and a formal departmental lecture.
In addition to the events scheduled by those departments, Hill will receive his award at the culminating Dean’s Club Celebration.
Hill’s visit is funded by the University of Iowa, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Alumni Fellows program.
