MONROE, NC -- Charles (Charlie) Mitchell, formerly of Albany, GA and presently of Monroe, NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 22, 2012, at Union County Hospice in Monroe, NC with his family by his side.

Born August 7, 1936, in Indianapolis, IN to Calvin and Thelma Hoyt Mitchell, Charlie was a University of Florida graduate where he was a two-time All-American and played both ways as offensive and defensive tackle. He was an offensive guard for one year with the Cleveland Browns. Charlie was a retired business owner of Interstate Warehouse Services in Albany, GA.

He is survived by his five children, Katherine Montbleau, Cornelius, NC; Julie Young, Columbus, OH; William Mitchell and Holly Blake, both from Mint Hill, NC; and Jon Mitchell, Beaufort, SC; four grandchildren, brother Donald Mitchell, Indianapolis, IN; and Dee King, Miami, FL.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, Feb. 4th at Porterfield Methodist Church in Albany, GA. Memorial contributions can be made to: Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110.
