AMERICUS — It’s been just over a week since Georgia Southwestern star Phillip Brown tore his MCL, and things have gone from bad to worse for the Hurricanes.
GSW fell even further into last place in the Peach Belt Conference West Division with a 68-60 home loss to UNC Pembroke (13-8, 7-4) on Sunday.
The Hurricanes have now lost four PBC games in a row since the injury to the reigning PBC Player of the Year last Saturday.
GSW (11-7, 2-7) is in last place in the West Division and two games out of a Top 4 finish which would qualify them for the conference tournament.
On Sunday, the Hurricanes rallied from an 11-point deficit in the second half to take a 51-50 lead with 7:18 remaining before Pembroke pulled away in the closing minutes.
Milos Kleut led the Hurricanes with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Evan Mobley and Marlon Rivera each scored 14.
Lady Hurricanes fall to UNC Pembroke, 64-58
AMERICUS — Playing their second game in as many days, the Georgia Southwestern Lady Hurricanes were hoping fatigue wouldn’t be a factor after their victory against.Francis Marion University, 64-60, the night before.
It was no such luck for GSW, which lost, 64-58, to the visiting UNC Pembroke (9-10, 6-5 PBC).
Senior guard Terra Branch led all scorers with 19 points to go along with her four rebounds and two assists. Fellow senior Jessica Jones was the only other Lady Hurricane to score in double digits as she registered ten points and four rebounds.
The loss puts Georgia Southwestern’s record to 12-6 overall and 4-5 in conference play. It will be another short turnaround for the Lady Hurricanes as they will play host to North Georgia on Wednesday evening in the Storm Dome.
