ALBANY, Ga. -- Albany State University contract food services management company Aramark will host Student Appreciation Day at 4:30 p.m. today in the ASU Dining Hall and the ballroom located in the new student center.
"We are having this special event to ensure that students, faculty and staff know about the services we provide," said Henry E. Ward, director of food services at ASU.
Aramark currently offers event catering services for students, faculty and staff and they also have franchise brands on campus that include Subway, Chic-fil-A, Pizza Hut and Einstein Bagels.
Ward said that he is expecting more than 1,000 people to attend the event.
"I see this as an opportunity to showcase our beautiful new facility as well as give our customers a chance to purchase meal plans from our new money-saving options," he said. "We want as many people as possible to experience the inviting atmosphere of our new dining hall. The mood and ambiance of this facility is really something special."
Ward also plans to publicize the on-campus employment opportunities available for students. Aramark currently employs more than 70 ASU students in its on-campus eateries.
"We often have students come in the office who are interested in employment with us," Ward said. "In my time with the company, I've seen many students workers graduate and begin careers as salaried managers for Aramark in other locations around the country."
An Aramark employee since 1998, Ward joined ASU last fall from Florida International University.
"We don't just want to be a part of the environment, we want to help students excel," he said. "We want to align what we do with the university's goals. For instance, Gerald Harris, an ASU marketing major, works as a marketing intern for Aramark. Gerald is involved with the student government association and is doing a great job marketing our services while gaining valuable career experience in the process."
