ALBANY -- Bill J. "Honey" Martin, 84, of Bronwood, GA, died July 2, 2012 at Willson Hospice House in Albany, GA. Graveside funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00 AM at the Leesburg Cemetery. Rev. Pete Sharber will officiate.
A native of Carbondale, IL, Mr. Martin was employed as an engineer with the Illinois Central Railroad Company and moved to Albany, GA in 1964 where he was employed with Mercer Mill Plantation as an overseer and dog trainer from 1967 to1972. In 1972 he became a State Game Manager for the state of Illinois. After his retirement in 1990, he returned to Georgia and lived in Lee County and to Bronwood, where he was a self- employed professional dog trainer and attended Bronwood Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Martin of Bronwood, GA, a daughter, Diane Martin of Albany, GA, two sons, Mark Martin and his wife, Diane and Keith (Dog) Martin all of Dawson, GA, a sister, Betty Ruth Runion and her husband, Bill of Carbondale, IL, a brother, Bob Martin and his wife, Betty of Kansas City, KS, step-mother, Marjorie Martin of Carbondale, IL. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Delores (Dory) Martin and his parents, Paul Martin and Golda Garrett Martin.
Eight grandchildren, Justin Martin and his wife, Amy, Chanda Sartain and her husband, Adam, Johnny Chandler and his wife, Heather and Shane Chandler and his wife, Jessica all of Anderson, SC, Pacer Martin and his wife, Tenya and Cansas Martin all of Lee County, GA, William Martin of Eddieville, KY and Austin Martin of Waverly, GA and seven great-grandchildren, Blake, Sarah, Kinlee, Sydney, Jasmine, Holden and Asher.
The family will be at the residence of Keith Martin, 77 Moon Road, Dawson, GA, 39842.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.
