APD responds to armed robbery

ALBANY, Ga. -- The Fourth of July got off to a bad start for one Albany man who police reports show was a victim of an early morning armed robbery.

Officers responded to 400 W. Tift Ave. at 1:20 a.m. on Wednesday in reference to an armed robbery. Contact was made with the victim, identified as Michael Richardson, 49, who stated that three unknown black males dressed in black hoods -- one armed with a handgun -- demanded money from him.

Richardson stated to police that the suspect carrying the gun hit him in the face with it. The suspects took his wallet, which contained cash, police officials said.

Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene to treat and transport the victim to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for a laceration to the left cheek, officials said Wednesday.

Nothing is wrong with the time, only the circumstances. If not this man, then the next person they stumble across. Wonder if the old Decoy Cop trick would work a time or two? How about a decoy walking his dog. Preferrably a Shepard or an Alstation. Could discourage some folks from being out late.

Time should have nothing to do with crime. I grew up in Albany in the early 60's and you were safe to walk any where day or night, you did not have to fear being robbed or raped. The crimminal knows that if they are not goning to get any punishment. We the people are going to have to take a stand and start fighting back, i may not get all three if attacked, but i can promise them i will get one before they get me. Enough is enough!!!

That was the 60's, I remember when you could leave your house unlocked and go shopping, not these days. Things have changed drastically and no, it is not safe to be out anytime, much less 1:30am.
