Demond Wilson, known to many as Lamont Sanford from the sitcom"Sanford and Son," will be performing at the Albany Civic Center.
ALBANY, Ga. — Fresh off a pivotal role in the Sherwood Baptist Church hit film “Courageous,” Albany actor/writer/producer/director Matt Hardwick is currently taking his faith-based stage production on the road.
“The Measure of a Man” follows the lives of four professional barbers as they deal with issues that challenge the measure of their manhood. Not only did he write “Measure,” Hardwick also produces and directs the play. The master barber and owner of the Elevations Beauty Barber and Fitness Studio in Albany designed and built the play’s set as well.
Hardwick has recruited a number of established actors as well as local talent to star in his play, a new production of which will return to the Albany Civic Center on Aug. 2. Demond Wilson, a Valdosta native best known for his role of Lamont Sanford on the hit 1972-77 comedy series “Sanford and Son” that starred the late Redd Foxx, joins Dennis L.A. White, who appeared in the Notorious B.I.G. biopic “Notorious,” Carl Payne from the TV shows “Martin” and “The Cosby Show,” Nina Nicole, who has appeared in a number of auteur Tyler Perry’s productions, and T.C. Stallings from “Courageous” in key roles in the production.
Local actors scheduled to appear include Geraldine West Hudley, Greg Elder, Jasmine Richardson, Talia Ashley, Angela Shumate, Angie Gardner and rapper Ole E.
In “Measure of a Man,” whose setting is modeled after Hardwick’s own barber shop, the four leads take the audience through a roller coaster ride of emotions before some of their older clientele help them find their way.
Tickets for the play, which are $28.50 and $34.50, are available at the Civic Center box office, (229) 317-7217; at all Ticketmaster locations, and online at www.ticketmaster.com.
