The best squawk in the paper today was the one about someone being too scared to come to Albany cause they didn't wanna get run-over by the police! ROTF!

How does the Albany Civil Rights Institute qualify for $50 large from the city?

I don't support public money going into failing venues. But I also don't support the same monies going into library branches that are under utilized and even when used seem to be primarily to read emails, as some have said. Tough times, tough choices.

Yes, open an internet cafe for free and you could close all but one library. People do not research anymore in hardback books. If the computers were taken out, they could lock the doors and throw away the key.

Sounds like a very good idea. Open a cafe and forget the libraries! Books can now be downloaded to hand-held gadgets...lol. So it seems to me libraries are becoming obsolete!

My vote is to trim back the libraries and not waste the $50k with ACRI. But if we were going to waste money on one or the other - its a no-brainer. Library gets the money.

I agree with this squawker--never been to the CRM but I have been placed in a position, more than once, where i was glad to get to the Southside Library...
