Former Lee County star Matt Aldrich almost gave up baseball after a rough transition from high school to college at Valdosta State, but Darton came calling and he’s revived his career.
ALBANY — The National Junior College Athletic Association recently announced Darton State College pitching ace and former Lee County star Matt Aldrich as an All-American honorable mention.
Aldrich finished his season with 107 strikeouts — the second-most in the entire NJCAA. He recorded a 2.94 ERA and finished the season with eight wins, three losses and two saves.
“After the frustrating start Matt had, I was glad to see him get his career back on track with the unbelievable season he had for us,” Darton State College head baseball coach Scot Hemmings said.
The Cavaliers relied on a talented pitching staff as they enjoyed the program’s first national ranking and set a new school record with 37 wins
Aldrich, who came to Darton after an unsuccessful, injury-filled stop at Valdosta State, has already signed with Columbus State University for next season.
