Squawk of the Day - July, 11 2012

"Please tell me why young volunteers give up their summer vacation and come to Albany to build homes, pick up trash on the highways and other jobs to beautify Albany when we have all these kids walking the streets all day and night with nothing to do but get in trouble? Some of them care nothing for their city except to rob, steal and harm others. Shame on them and their mothers."

We get this exact squawk every year. Everyone is embarrassed that kids from a church in another community come clean our city, but no one does anything to clean it ourselves.

Wait....the mayor did and she was ridiculed by the same people for not addressing a more important issue.

How's the view from the sideline, "experts"?

For that matter, there are areas in their home City that could have used the attention. Maybe it's the publicity, or just wanting to take a field trip. I don't know. I do however appreciate their hard work and show of support. As to the locals, why do our Churchs sponsor so many mission trips, when their help is needed locally? Why does the US give so much in Foreigh Aid when there are so many needy here? Your guess is as good as mine.

That thought crossed my mind, too, and then I remembered that there are young people in Albany and surrounding communities that do volunteer individually or in a group. The only difference is their efforts are often overshadowed by the actions of a few. I believe that there are parents, grandparents or other adults who do try to instill values and conern for others in their children, however, they do not have cameras spotlighting them because they are doing what is morally correct. Thank you to all the young people who care about your community, for giving your time freely to others, and to the adults who instilled those values in you.

Why shame on them and their mothers? Why not shame on them and the young men who couldn't keep their pants zipped and created the child with the mother? Why not SHAME ON THE PARENTS AND THE WELFARE SOCIETY THAT CREATED THEM?

It is really shameful to see how lazy Albany is. Put those ISS kids to work during ISS picking up trash around the school. Make it a true punishment to them. Make sure you do it in the afternoon when it is hotter.

2

LGadson 2 years, 4 months ago

Can't do that anymore. The students have to have so many instructional hours per day. Even in ISS they are to be learning academics; they're just isolated. And the only way they can stay afterschool is during a tutorial program. EVERY minute of the day has to be in an educational plan, and it has to be documented. They would suggest suspension before making them stay after school.

We need to go back to Chain Gangs. Young people who are at the crossroads of life need to see the cruel and harsh reality of chain gangs on public roadways. That sight will burn into your memory. It was an effective deterrent.

Its because most adults & kids in Albany have been taught that they are able to get everything for doing nothing. Free housing, food, medical, etc. Stand in line at any store & watch them talk on their $600.00 phone and hand the clerk a foodstamp card, then go to the parking lot & get in their 20K vehicle.

I would like to welcome the young men and women who come to Albany in a spirit of mission. What a well placed value in your lives and I hope you sustain it for throughout adulthood. Your contributions are appreciated.

It is a shame that such a wonderful outreach turns into squawkers being negative. You know my husband and I worked many years with our youth group at church and we did "World Changers" mission trips during the summers. This is construction work and yard work and whatever else we could do for the homeowners while we were gone for the week. Our goal was for our homeowners to see Jesus working through us. I commend any and all youth that give of their time during the summer to help others. We did not do our work in Albany. We would make it a trip where we could all bond and get to know each other better and we really had a blast. And these kids PAID to go and do this work. And the work was very hard work, but at the end of each day it was so rewarding and when the projects were compete it was just awesome. Don't knock our youth as a whole because I am quite sure that youth groups in Albany go out and do the same thing.

The squawker only got one part partially right. Shame on the awol Baby Daddies.....that's the primary root of Albany's problem.

3

VSU 2 years, 4 months ago

Well as bad as it is not having father figures, the flip side of that is if the daddies are thugs and out selling drugs, shooting and robbing people, the kids might be better off staying away from their daddies. It's really a no win situation. That's not the role model they need to be with.

My neice lives with her boyfriend who fathers their children and he is always going to jail. I honestly think my neice and the children would be better off on their own and never see him again.

So when we say the problem lies with fatherless children, it depends on who the father is. Thug or working provider!

Regarding the squawk, it is nice of those people to come here to do that, but an embarrassment to Albany that someone is doing a job Albany citizens should be doing.

I agree, most moms (like me) are push-overs when it comes to our kids... we love them so much ...sometimes it's hard to say no. The Dad's job is to put their foot down, make the children mind, be the discipline the kids need as they grow. But in Albany, the dads are absent. Mama's "babies" can do no wrong and no daddies in the home to guide them. It's sad.

And the corrupt schools system in Dougherty Co. These people should be role models and not crooks. Shame on them!!!

Kudos to the youth groups volunteering to help others, no matter if they are from Albany or any other city. This is teaching them to be good stewards of their time, and to share their experiences of what God has done with their life. As some have mentioned, it is a POSITIVE for this to happen. Unfortunately, there are many who are becoming increasingly frustrated with the LACK of PRIDE demonstrated by some of the youth and adults today. Take for example the way some previously well kept neighborhoods become blighted areas. Yards are trashed, houses go without paint, and in need of repairs. Please do not tell me this is a result of being poor. The people moving in could afford to buy the property in a well maintained neighborhood, but due to lack of pride and being lazy, failed to keep it up. Thus now we have youth groups coming in to provide some help. If we do not teach our youth to have these values now, we will have more of the same lack of pride when they become adults.

I say if you are caught telling lies about the DCSS simply to cause trouble, you should have to go out there and pick up the trash to go along with the trash you are spreading daily....(hint, hint)

0

VSU 2 years, 4 months ago

Good morning coach! What about if Murfree and the board are found guilty, they are made to go out and pick up the trash and maybe you could join them. You could wear your coachjohnson42 T-Shirt. On the back it could read "I'm here to clean up the trash"

Shinedownfan 2 years, 4 months ago

VSU, when I first read da corch's comment I thought "DCSS telling lies and causing trouble" (since that is what they have been caught doing) till I got to the "hint hint" part... I think he is meaning us??? hmmm... I think he got his words twisted, surely he cant mean us...

1

VSU 2 years, 4 months ago

He does mean us! He thinks that should be our punishment for committing perjury. LOL!

1

coachjohnson42 2 years, 4 months ago

I will do it as long as you show up with your "VSU" shirt that says ..." I LIE ON OUR PRESIDENT, AND I HATE THE DCSS, AND I HATE ASU, AND I HATE ANYTHING BLACK, AND I HATE TELLING THE TRUTH"......

0

VSU 2 years, 4 months ago

Sorry, I can't do that coach, because your statements don't match. 1 - I don't lie about Obuma 2 - I don't hate the DCSS, just the clowns on the currupted school board and those that steal from the system 3 - I don't hate ASU, just don't respect them. They are pretty much like the DCSS passing people and giving out degrees and diplomas whether they earned it or not. 4 - Contrary to popular belief, I definately don't dislike blacks, just the ones that are freeloaders who don't want to work, and do nothing but shoot, rob, kill & steal from others & that goes for any white people who are just as bad. I respect anybody regardless of race who goes out and earns an honest living and being a good productive citizen. I've said before I can be friends with anybody as long as they are friends with me, but if they want to be jerks, I can be a jerk as well. 5 - I tell nothing but the truth, maybe some thoughts are opinions, but then again most thoughts on this blog are just opinions and anybody is entitled to them.

ROFLMAO you have proved repeatedly you have no clue what the “TRUTH” is!

  1. Any “truth” you don’t like on your Master is a “Lie”

  2. Anyone who wants to weed out lying, cheating, stealing and incompetence, “Hates the DCSS” and has nothing to do with wanting to improve DCSS and the services they need to provide to our children.

  3. No one really “hates” ASU. It is common knowledge not everyone can qualify for a High Caliber College education so ASU has its place in helping to build their self-esteem. Eyes gots mees a coledgeumafation deplooma.

  4. We don’t hate anything black. Just the mindless zombies who follow where they are lead regardless of color.

  5. Ouch the “Truth” hurts, no wonder you claim everyone you disagree with is lying.

The funniest part is: Unlike the Slaves from America’s past who’s masters owned their bodies and forced them to work for their Master yet never owned the slave’s heart and souls, Unlike them, today’s master owns your hearts and souls and claims you are free then tells you to work to support him and “Trust Him” because ONLY He will work to take care of you.

Who is the true free man?

COACH: NOTHING YOU OR BVR CAN SAY OR DO TO MAKE THE DCSS SNOWBALL GO BACK UP THE HILL.

Your "toes" comment yesterday was so true and hilarious! This one is just as good!

Because it is like we live in a third world country around these parts. High poverty rate, low performing schools, corrupt government and schools, etc. Need I say more?

Thank you to to the kids who came to help clean up Albany. We are appreciative of your efforts.

willie 2 years, 4 months ago

I wish those kids would come and clean up my neighbor's front and back yard. I can only imagine what the inside of the house must look like.
