Two armed robberies under investigation

ALBANY, Ga. — Responding to a “shots fired” dispatch, Albany Police Department officers rushed to 2401 Nottingham Way where they found the situation under control.

Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Matthew Rose stood over a handcuffed man on the ground at about midnight Tuesday when officers arrived.

According to a police report, Rose said he heard several shots and saw Cordero Freeman running behind an apartment building with a gun in his hand. Once Rose got closer he saw Freeman walking back towards him with a gun. He ordered Freeman to the ground.

Freeman reported that an unnamed suspect came over to his apartment to get a CD. While he was standing outside, the suspect pulled out a gun and stole his money and a cell phone, Freeman contends.

Freeman said that the suspect fired shots at him. Freeman said he took the gun from the suspect and ran away, stated the report. Police recovered the .38-caliber Smith and Wesson revolver from Freeman as part the investigation into the incident.

In another armed robbery, a woman and her baby escaped an armed robber who stole a 32-inch television from a residence on the 1100 block of Ninth Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, police reports stated.

Toni Nunez, 20, sat on her front porch with her baby when a black man wearing a black shirt and blue jeans pulled a gun and forced her into the residence, a report stated.

“At that point, the victim stated she grabbed her baby, went into the bedroom, and then locked the door,” said Phyllis Banks, police spokeswoman. “The suspect then took the television off the wall and left the residence.”
