Can someone educate me and explain how blacks pick names for thier children??? I hate to make fun of something IF there is a tradition behind this or do they take parts of everyone they know, then slam them together and name a child???

ROCK: MY BEST GUESS IS SOMETHING AKIN TO GHETTO FABULOUS AND IT IS A TRADITION IN GHETTO/LOW INCOME/UNDER-EDUCATED NEIGHBORHOODS. THEIR WHITE COUNTERPARTS FAVOR NAMES LIKE CODY,SHOOTER, COLT, RILEY ECT... KINDA LIKE COWBOY NAMES. BUT NOTHING SAYS BLACK LIKE QUASHAYLA OR JACQUEVEOUS OR THE GRATUITOUS USE OF APOSTROPHE'S.

I swear this is the most racist town I have ever lived in... Half of you guys are sitting here hiding behind your computer spewing hate. You would never say these things to these people's faces! I bet most of you go to church and pretend to be the most upright Christians in the community! I would love to be able to put a face with these statements. Do you actually think that God would be proud of the things you say? By the way, I am a white, taxpaying citizen and have never been as ashamed of my race as I have been since I moved here. I understand that people act and behave differently than you do but, count some of it to them not knowing any better. So what do we do? We get on out "high horse" and make fun of the less than and the ignorant. If you found out today that your life will end in the next few days or months, do you actually think you would still be saying these things?

2

MRKIA 2 years, 2 months ago

YOU ASSUME THAT EVERYONE COMMENTING HERE IS WHITE. IT'S A FACT THAT MANY BLACK FOLKS CRINGE WHEN THEY HEAR SOME OF THE NAMES THESE CHILDREN ARE SADDLED WITH. IN YOUR OWN WORDS YOU DESCRIBE THEM AS "LESS THAN" AND "IGNORANT" WHICH IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE. JUST AS PARENTS ARE FREE TO NAME THEIR CHILD ANYTHING THEY PLEASE, SOCIETY IS FREE TO TAKE OFFENSE. CARE TO VENTURE A GUESS AS TO HOW MANY DESERVING KIDS ARE DISCRIMINATED AGAINST BECAUSE OF THESE TONGUE- TWISTER NAMES?

PERHAPS SHAMING THE PARENTS INTO AT LEAST PUTTING SOME THOUGHT INTO THE NAMING OF THEIR CHILD. BLACK PARENTS IN PARTICULAR HAVE TAKEN ABSURD NAMES TO A NEW LEVEL. UNSPELLABLE, UNPRONOUNCEABLE, NONSENSICAL, MULTISYLLABLE, APOSTROPHE LADEN GIBBERISH. NAMES USED TO MEAN SOMETHING.

Perhaps the names do not sound absurd to people of color....did you ever think about that....people hate what they don't undrstand

What a bunch of freakin losers. Don't you all have anything to do other then joke about names that you can't pronounce? Squawkee said it all, and maybe you all should give those comments some thought. You think these parent's give a rat's a$$ about what you think about these kids names? My kids also have unique names, which they learned to pronounce and spell before pre-school. So if they can spell and pronounce their names and you can't, what does that say about you MR. KIA? You want to know were the problem lies in your community? Look in the mirror! And MR KIA, those names do mean something ,too bad you don't know what it is. Here is a few more to joke about if you wish..Kawandis, Katara, Keneisha, Kentai, and Khorry. But before you laugh too much understand that my kids are college educated, as well as their parents. Talk about undereducated, again look in the mirror!

It means that you are selfish to hamstring and disadvantage your children to give them sillyass names that cause others to form judgements on them based on your ingnorance when naming them. Let me clue you in on something that you are not aware of- your stupid names have cost your children opportunities, whether or not if you like it or know it.

2

Hawk59 2 years, 2 months ago

Maybe you would like for them to have a name like yours. Which by the way means DEVIL. Let me clue you on something, they are doing fine, making good money in their perspective careers. The only thing that could have cost them opportunities would be the color of their skin. Sillya$$ names huh? You might want to remember some of those names. If you or family members are ever in S.Fla. and has to visit an emergency room, you might have to be assessed by one of those sillya$$ names.

How about (real names!) SY'PHYLLIS and GHONEREA? Woo Wee...says it all!

1

Outtahere 2 years, 2 months ago

Why are you so defensive? The names you mentioned aren't even close to the ones we were laughing about.

0

MRKIA 2 years, 2 months ago

HE CAN'T DEFEND THIS NONSENSE.

Outtahere 2 years, 2 months ago

I feel a little shade coming my way from squakee and Hawk59 but I don't appologize for what I said. Now I'm a loser and uneducated - nice try! Noticing that a name is ridiculous is NOT racist - it means I have eyes and can read. No point in arguing with those who don't agree that these names are over the top! I don't think these parents even relize how the names will effect them later on in life.

0

Hawk59 2 years, 2 months ago

Nor do I apologize for what I said, in fact you proved me right. Hint; You might want to proof read your comments before sending. So even though you might not be a loser, you are undereducated.

0

Outtahere 2 years, 2 months ago

So making a grammatical mistake when posting in a hurry is undereducated? Hmmmmm.......What ever makes you feel better. By the way, PLEASE point out my mistake, IF you can find one!

The heck with the names themselves. Just the sheer number of individuals being booked into jail is the problem. I don't mean the Police shouldn't be arresting them, I simply mean there seem to be an awful lot of individuals that have no respect for the Law or apparently the rights and property of others. Somehow these people have to be educated to the fact that Jail isn't a place you want to end up in due to your behavior. Just how we do that I don't know, but across this great land, we have far too many indivduals sitting in jail cells.

Sister_Ruby 2 years, 2 months ago

Nobody said anything about race in the original comments!! Nothing!! A day later OK someobody did but not everybody. Just crying "racist" won't solve your problems.

2

hotdog 2 years, 2 months ago

They are America's problems...not yours or their problems...the sooner we figure that out and come up with viable solutions the better off we Americans will be

0

Sister_Ruby 2 years, 2 months ago

Here's a viable solution: do well in school. finish high school. get a job. learn a trade. don't have babies out of wedlock. get married and build a family together. work hard at whatever job you get. do more than is expected. be a good citizen. do to others what you would like them to do for you. Just a few thoughts.

2

Sister_Ruby 2 years, 2 months ago

Shut 'em down with THAT ONE! HAHAHAHA!! BOOM SHAKKA LAKKA!!

0

hotdog 2 years, 2 months ago

Yes AMERICANS should do that...All of them regardless of race.....Boom back at you

As I said before.... Hmmmm. History always has a "funny" way of repeating  I'm quite sure we have alot of smart folk in here who know a lot about the civil war and such....and the period of Reconstruction.  Hmmmm.  Well, here's one aspect of that era where many of you either don't know or don't want to admit that you know.  I call it the "era of Redemption".  Southern whites were truly pissed about the changes in the South as a result of them getting their asses handed to them.(some are still pissed that the South lost the war between the states)   Anyway, the South was occupied and the then Republicans were in control.  These Republicans, unlike today's republican, fought for emancipation, citizenship, and voting rights for the newly freed slaves. As a result of the many changes in the South, many educated Negroes returned to the South....and some blacks gained political power. For example, Hiram Revels (R-MI), Rep. Benjamin S. Turner (R-AL), Robert DeLarge (R-SC), Josiah Walls (R-FL), Jefferson Long (R-GA), Joseph Rainey and Robert B. Elliott (R-SC) elected during Reconstruction.  You could probably imagine the fury from some of the white southerners who had to sit next to these gentlemen in Congress.    America was truly on its way to be "post-racial"

0

hotdog 2 years, 2 months ago

Guess what?  These black gentlemen had to endure all sort of bullshyte from their white counterparts.....ranging from challenges of their citizenship to challenges of their intelligence.  They were even called monkeys.  Does all this sound familiar?  You better believe it does.  As a result of the Compromise of 1877, Republicans of that era agreed to not intervene in southern affairs and you can guess what happened next.  You got it........white southern Democrats were "redeemed" and set out to disenfranchise most blacks and poor whites by instituting poll taxes, dumbass literacy tests, more strict residency requirements, and other restricts that made it near impossible for some folk to satisfy.  Hmmmmmmmmmmm.  In addition, by the 1890s, white southern Democrats created new constitutions that forced thousands of previously eligible voters from the rolls. Most blacks and many poor whites were unable to vote.  However, poor whites were given a "pass" via the grandfather clause.

Soon, Jim Crow laws were instituted and racial violence went through the roof and, as they say, the rest is history.  Black people gained the right to vote in 1870, but after the South was "redeemed", they pretty much couldn't vote until 1965.  Hmmmm.

Now.....fast forward to the Obama presidency.  You can pretty much see the same thing happening all over again.  First, you have the unthinkable...a black man becoming the president of the most powerful nation on the planet. Many people are happy, but many were not....and still not.  On the night of his inauguration, you had a group of individuals plotting his demise not far from the ceremony. Hmmmm.  Then, you have the constant challenges of his citizenship.....and his intelligence.  Oh...and let's not forget about the attacks on voting rights going on right now.  Are y'all following me here??  Of course you are, even if you don't agree with me or admit that this is too much of a coincidence. Now, the racial violence hasn't begun...and it won't...new Negroes today....who are not afraid to fight back...you know....with them being the most violent creatures in America according to the' race card' screamers and others.  Today's GOP is just using old plays from a very old playbook.

"Something is WRONG!!! This nation is not about poor people, whether they're black, brown, red, yellow, or white. This nation is about RICH people!! And to hell with the weak, the poor.....they must SERVE!"

There will be another movement...this time it will be by class and not color

0
